Home Decoration and Design Trends to Look for This Year

Decorating a home and making innovative changes to it by following this year’s trends will be explored in this article. According to design experts, trends include pet-friendly furnishings, striking sofas, elevated offices, and nature-inspired hues.

As we begin this brand-new year, everyone’s mind is focused on one question: What’s Next? Trends come and go fast, but the past two years have taught us that so much can change practically overnight. If you’re looking for evidence, look no further than your own home. Previously reserved for nights and weekends, many people increasingly use their homes as multi-functional headquarters. (Your home is not only where you eat, sleep, and relax; it also serves as your office, gym, and restaurant.)

Interior design insights about what’s going to occur in home décor this year are shared by four designers. Their reactions range from the old to the new: Some anticipate that formal workspaces and nature-inspired decor would be popular in 2021, while others like more opulent elements. Whatever trends tickle your attention, it’s safe to bet your home will have a bright, aesthetically beautiful new year.

Grandmillennial Design

Though Ariel Orkin does not believe in the transient nature of trends, she is a fan of the grandmillennial phenomena that are currently trending. This is one trend that, according to the New York-based designer, shows no signs of slowing down. I believe chintz, antiques, and trim will remain trendy among the younger set in 2022, she says.

I’m delighted to see a younger generation appreciating traditional style with a contemporary twist. Many designers are now offering a modern take on this style, but Orkin argues it is still possible to get historic pieces on a budget. She recommends buying locally and vintage. Rather than following trends and feeling like your home is antiquated a few years later if you follow your gut and understand what you love, you start to gather things that inform your own particular style. While exploring an estate sale is a terrific way to find a hidden gem, Orkin also likes to shop online at places like Chairish and 1st Dibs.

Luxurious Details

Taniya Nayak’s focus in 2022 will be on the simple luxuries of home. I’m adding stylish statement items everywhere, the designer says, from living rooms and bedrooms to laundry rooms and restored basements. By adding a few luxurious elements, you can brighten up a room and make it feel bright, shiny, and new. There are numerous ways to spruce up your home. While Nayak favors velvet, metallic touches, and mirrored detailing, large accessories may always add a wow factor. She adds that she herself enjoys a large statement clock. Another way to add sparkle and depth to any room is with a statement mirror.

Pet-Friendly Furniture

Why limit the tiny amenities in your home to humans? Pet-focused décor is expected to make a big impact this year. People want to handle their pets in a way that doesn’t interrupt their décor, she explains. Pets are members of the family, and it’s now simple to provide them with a fashionable and comfy place to lounge. And, like your personal exquisite touches, barkitecture, may be customized to meet your space, needs, and budget. Nayak says you can incorporate pieces inspired by your pet into your house, such as an interesting wall organizer suitable for hanging leashes and collars. Of course, barkitecture, should include stylish accessories for your four-legged buddies.

Interesting Couches

Erin Gates grants to redefine sitting pretty with a colorful sofa in 2022. After years of neutral sofas, I think we’ll see people taking greater risks with textiles and colors, says the New England-based designer. People are genuinely investing in their homes these days. They are making sure their homes are furnished in a way that makes them feel good. They are committed to patterns and colors that people enjoy rather than retreating to neutrals to be safe, which will be much more popular. This emerging style is all about making a statement, so don’t be scared to show off your daring side. Modern-day favorites include jewel-toned velvets, bold stripes, and quirky florals. Your room and style sense should dictate your ultimate choice.

Advanced Research

Many homeowners clumsily transformed closets, guest bedrooms, or empty nooks into home offices. When shelter-in-place regulations were implemented in 2020. Two years later, more and more people are making the home office a permanent feature, with remote work still a reality. The recent pandemic has taught us a lot about how we need our homes to function, Gates adds. It is necessary now to have a dedicated workspace with a door that can separate work from home, even when both are in the same place. We’re seeing a lot of folks these days convert a spare bedroom (or even a closet) into a functional office.

Of course, the research does not have to be all about business. This is an excellent opportunity to experiment with bold colors, innovative window treatments, and wallpaper. Best of all, you don’t need an infinite amount of space to adopt this trend. Really evaluate your home and how it runs, as well as how you might carve out a specific office for yourself, she advises. If you don’t have any spare rooms or closets, consider investing in a lovely secretary that you can close at night.

Natural Elements

After spending so much time in nature, it’s only natural that we bring in nature’s impact. We are enjoying earthy hues for the home this year, says Cortney Bishop. We’re combining our favorite earth tones with our favorite designs. Nature-inspired tones have had a moment in 2021. However, the South Carolina-based firm predicts a shift in how we use those relaxing green and brown hues. Layering and blending patterns in your room create a welcoming, warm environment, she explains. Whether you experiment with different prints or add a few plush textures, one thing is certain: the end result will be very cozy. Whether it is changing the room color or adding a new piece of furniture, redecorating your home can be bold, and innovative and provide a change that will boost your spirits every day!
